In this class you will learn how to massage with these compresses and how to use them for self-massage, stress management, and sinus relief. Prenatal Thai Yoga Massage
Many people have heard of Prenatal massage, but not many people have heard of Prenatal Thai Yoga Massage. All aspects of Prenatal massage have many, therapeutic benefits, but Thai Yoga Massage is unique because the positions and accessibility allow for the session to be more comfortable for both the mother and the massage therapist. In this class, you will learn how the mother-to-be should ergonomically get onto the Thai mat on the floor, in addition to positions and key-areas to work that tend to be the most common pain and discomfort areas for Prenatal patients. Contraindicated stretches and acupressure points will be discussed as well for optimal safety. This workshop is taught as a full-day class as part of our Thai Level 3 course, but this is a short glimpse into the amazing world of working with Prenatal clientele. This workshop is open to pregnant mothers-to be and their partners, as well as to therapists and the community.

Introduction to Seated Position, Thai Yoga Massage
The Seated Position as part of a Thai Yoga Massage is a VERY unique aspect of this modality. No other massage modalities take their clients into a Seated position. This position is traditionally give at the end of a Thai Yoga Massage session in order to prepare the receiver to meditate. Not many people know that the beginning focus and purpose of Yoga and Thai Yoga Massage was to prepare a person, especially a monk, to meditate for long hours at a time. It’s nearly impossible to sit still in a meditative, seated position for long hours when the body is “barking” at you. The body needs to be stretched, moved, & compressed first in order to sit still. The Seated position is normally taught as part of our Level 2 Thai class, and this 2-hour workshop is an introduction that will give you a few assisted stretches and pressure to practice on your current clients and/or with family and friends. The Seated position is therapeutic for opening the shoulders, upper back, and neck, along with helping increase spinal mobility.

Low Back Pain: Thai Yoga Massage to the Rescue!!
Back pain, both upper and lower back pain, is one of the most commonly injured areas, both acutely and chronically, in our culture. In this class, we will focus on teaching you how to relieve lumbar back pain in particular. Thai Yoga Massage is VERY helpful for reducing back pain, and it’s also more enjoyable for the massage therapist to practice on the back because fists, forearms, elbows, knees, and feet are used more commonly for pressure than thumbs, palms, and hands, which makes the session more ergonomically friendly for the giver. We will offer another class for reducing upper back tension, but in this class, we will focus on doing a combination of lower body stretches and compressions that will reduce lumbar pain. This information is taught throughout our Thai Levels 1 – 3 courses. This class is appropriate for all levels—whether you’re a currently licensed massage therapists or you’d like a few techniques to practice on friends and family—this class will educate you about low back pain and how to reduce the pain via Thai Yoga Massage.

Thai Energy Lines, Theory & Practice
Similar to Chinese Meridian lines, the Thai system of healing has a similar meridian system called, "Sen Sib". This phrase translates to "10 Energy Lines". Many Yogis are familiar with the concept of energy lines because those lines are addressed in the practice & teachings of Yoga--the Indian system calls them "Prana Nadi" lines. There are similarities and differences between how these lines are viewed and therapeutically worked in these different cultures. This class will introduce you to the concept of the "energy body" and will show you some of the introductory theories behind the Thai Sen Sib lines and energy lines in general. In addition, you will start learning a few of the lines--how to palpate & to stretch an energy line.

Lower Body Stretches, Thai Style
A popular way to give & to receive massage, in Thailand, has always been within the family unit. The industries of fishing & farming have always been popular in Thailand, and they still are to this day. One example is that a man would be gone for a week at a time, on a big fishing boat, and would be home for a few days before going back out for his family's livelihood. His family, wife and children, would massage him during his time at home--usually 4+ hours for a full-body massage--helping to work out all of the stress from the long, hard week. The lower body was usually worked the most within the farming & fishing Thai families--all of those hours on one's feet & the daily, physical labor certainly took a toll on a person's body. Traditionally, with Thai Massage, one sees a lot of emphasis on the lower body--leg stretches & compressions. The historical context is certainly one explanation of that focused lower body work. In this class you will learn a sequence of lower body stretches to open the hips, hamstrings, psoas, quads, and IT bands. This lower body-focused stretching is very useful for the many, athletic Coloradans that mountain bike, hike, and commit to other, physical activities in the Summer.

Thai Neck Stretches & Massage
Many people in America either have lower back pain or neck pain, or both. Traditionally, Thai Massage didn't place a huge focus on the neck region. Mostly, in part, because the culture was and is so much less "heady", less cerebral than our American culture. All of the computer work, driving, desk work, and overly active minds normally creates more stress, tension, and injuries in the upper back & neck regions, in addition to the poor postural alignment that ensues from these activities. This class will introduce you to assisted neck stretches for the most commonly tight neck muscles, & will show you how to massage the tightness and stress from these constricted muscles. Overall, this sequence will help you and your body become more aware of the stress it holds on a daily basis, and how you can relieve that tension through assisted stretches and massage.
